Paragraph I
I believe in the future of agriculture, with a
faith born not of words but of deeds -
The author believes that agriculture has bright and successful times ahead and that this belief is not founded in rhetoric, but in the physical accomplishments of Agricultural producers.
achievements won by
the present and past generations of agriculturists;
This line recognizes the outstanding accomplishments by Agricultural producers in former years as well as those of today, signifying that these successes offer us a fantastic platform upon which to build.
in the
promise of better days through better ways,
The author believes that agriculture has bright and successful times ahead and that these future successes will be brought about by the increases in technology, education, combined with a strong work ethic.
even as the
better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles
of former years.
Mr. Tiffany obviously recognizes that we as a nation have the most plentiful, safest food supply ever known to the history of the world, and that we reached this point through the hard work and dedication of those Agricultural producers that came before us.
Paragraph II
I believe that to live and work on a good farm, or to be
engaged in other agricultural pursuits, is pleasant as well
as challenging;
A profession in the field of agriculture is pleasant because one gets to work and deal with the best people on earth, people with a strong work ethic, a honest upbringing and an inborn sense of fairness and cooperation. Its challenging due to the management skills, many long hours of labor, and high levels of education needed to a successful and productive Agricultural professional.
for I know the joys and discomforts of
agricultural life and hold an inborn fondness for those
associations which, even in hours of discouragement, I cannot
deny.
Everyday agriculture is filled with joys and discomforts. or "ups and downs". Joys may be bringing in a banner crop or winning grand champion at the county show. Discomforts may come in the form hauling hay by pickup light till you can go no longer only to be up and at it come next sunlight, or spending countless hours teaching a lamb to brace, a steer to lead or a pig to WALK to the judge. No matter the consequences, for some reason there is an innate feeling of accomplishment, associated with agricultural life, that gives one a feeling of self worth.
Paragraph III
I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from
others.
We as agriculturist must serve as role models in business, technology and community service, and that we should demand that people and governments should respect our right to serve others and earn a honest living for our families.
I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and
think clearly, with such knowledge and skill as I can secure,
I must accomplish jobs and duties in a manner that doesnt waste time or money, and this is best accomplished by being educated with the best research and instructors available.
and in the ability of progressive agriculturists to serve our
own and the public interest in producing and marketing the
product of our toil.
Using technology and research producers can earn a better living for them and their families while simultaneously providing the country and world with a safe, inexpensive plentiful food supply.
Paragraph IV
I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in
bargaining;
Producers should not rely on government programs and misfortune of others to earn a living, but instead they should use education and managerial skills to supply high quality goods that will be in high demand around the globe, and that we should also use those skills to aquire an honest and fair price for our efforts.
in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to
help make it so - for others as well as myself;
we should live life with all items necessary to be happy, productive citizens. and that the wealth used to aquire those items should be attained fairly and honestly , and further more we should strive to provide agricultural goods at a price reasonable enough to allow others to have those items as well.
in less need
for charity and more of it when needed;
we should guard against asking for or accepting handouts as we are apt to lose respectability with our peers, however we should be eager and willing to provide help to our friends and neighbors in true times of despair.
in being happy myself
and playing square with those whose happiness depends upon
me.
we should approach life with a positive attitude and acceptance of ourselves, and that we should be honest and positive with people whose lives we touch and influence.
Paragraph V
I believe that American agriculture can and will hold
true to the best traditions of our national life
Agriculture in the United States will continue to be a foundation for strong work ethic, high productive and moral standards, all qualities that have made our country the greatest civilization known to modern man.
and that I
can exert an influence in my home and community which will
stand solid for my part in that inspiring task.
by serving as a role model for others, participating in community affairs, and doing my job to the best of my ability I can function as an intragal part of the making our country, and agriculture in our country the most productive on the planet.
**** What does the creed as a whole mean to you ?
The creed is not just words on paper instead it is a map of avenues that when followed will lead all of us into a city of accomplishments and prosperity. and that we should do our best to uphold the spirit of the words that E.M. Tiffany put on paper those many years ago.
