1999 Waxahachie FFA

BANQUET

This past Tuesday night May 11th, the Waxahachie FFA Chapter celebrated a very successful year with the Annual FFA Parent-Member Banquet . Nearly 150 members and guests filled the High School Cafeteria to recognize members for their outstanding achievements and also to thank parents and community members for the fantastic support given to the FFA Chapter over the 1998-99year.

All first year members present received the Greenhand FFA Degree, which is awarded to those Agricultural Science 101 & 102 students that have show a mastery of skills that range from leading group meetings to knowing shop and home safety.

Star FFA members were also recognized. These members are selected based on Project Programs, Academic Achievement, and participation in FFA Activities. Star members were;

Reba and Dustin were also the Star Lone Star and Chapter Members for the Corsican District, which includes over 1100 students in their respective divisions.

Waxahachie FFA Leadership and Judging teams were also recognized at the banquet. Chapter members were very active in these areas this year.

Leadership Teams and Judging Teams have the opportunity to compete on three levels of competition, District, Area, and State. In our district 22 schools compete for awards, Area consists of 92 FFA Chapters, and 942 schools are eligible for state competition. Team members and accomplishments were as follows ;

Candice sold steers at two Major Stock Shows, Fort Worth and Houston

The keynote speaker for the banquet was Mr. William Woody. As the Agriscience Teacher for 37 years at Lorena High School, he was able to motivate members by explaining to them how their FFA experiences would benefit them after graduation.

The highlight of the evening came with the presentations of the Honorary Chapter FFA Degrees. This award is the highest honor that the local chapter can bestow upon a non-active member. This award is given to adults that have shown a tremendous amount of support the program. Recipients this year were Pam Underwood, of the Waxahachie Stock Show sales committee, and Mr. John Aune, WHS Principal.

The FFA appreciates the efforts of its members, parents, and the whole community in helping to make the 1998-99 year a successful one to remember.
