 What is Auto Technology?

The auto technology course is a two year training program beginning in the 11th grade, offering students guided learning and work experience within the automobile industry. The student will acquire the high skills necessary for the jobs of tomorrow and in addition provide a linkage between secondary and post-secondary education. Students will attend regular academic classes for a part of the day as well as a specific auto technology course. They will also be released to a worksite for 15 hours per week during their senior year to work with a certified auto technician. Upon successful completion of the program, the student may enter into an auto technician position or pursue an associate degree from a junior or community college.

 What Certificates Will I Receive Upon Program Completion?

A Waxahachie Auto Technology program certificate will be awarded on completion of each program area. Waxahachie program areas are designed to provide the participant with the technical knowledge required to take the National Automotive Technician Educational Foundation (NATEF) examination for ASE certification. While Waxahachie High School is a certified NATEF training facility and  the Waxahachie High School certification program areas meet NATEF competency and contact hour requirements.
