Cosmetology 1(2 periods each day)
These laboratory-oriented courses provide students with job specific training for entry-level employment in cosmetology careers . The courses include sanitation and sterilization processes, shampooing and rinsing hair, application of conditioning creams and color rinses, application of scalp and hair treatments, shaping and thinning hair, hairstyling, permanent waving, hair coloring, manicuring, facials, massage as it applies to the various related skills as well as make-up, entrepreneurship, safety, leadership, and career opportunities. The student must complete 1500 hours of classwork(1000 of cosmetology clock hours and 500 of academic hours credited at the end of the 2 year course. Students must clock the required number of hours in order to receive the 3 credits that are offered for each of the 2 years. Students are required to take the State board exam when all course requirements are met at the end of the 2 years. A passing grade by the Stateboard exam will enable the student to work as a licensed Cosmetologist anywhere in the State of Texas.The approximate cost to begin in the Cosmetology program is $100.00. This cost covers fees, smock, student permit.
