Preparation for Parenting (Parenting & Child Development)

Units of study will include the following:  human reproduction and responsibilities of human sexuality.  An in-depth unit of the trimesters of pregnancy will also be studied, along with heredity, birth defects, and their causes.  Students may expect to learn about birth, labor and delivery, cost of having a bay, and sound nutrition practices needed during pregnancy.  Students will participate in a simulated parenting experience.  The content of the course also includes information about other important issues affecting children such as divorce, single parenting, abuse, step parenting, and more.  Students are encouraged to join Future Career & Community Leaders of America (formerly FHA).  FCCLA focuses on family, leadership skills, individual careers, and current teen issues.
